Accept or Except

Use accept when you mean “to receive, to believe, or to acknowledge.”

Example: Hawkins cannot accept criticism easily

Use except when you mean “to leave out.”

Example: Send her all the apples, except the rotten ones we set aside.

When you are referring to a noun, use exception.

Example: Allowing you to leave early would be an exception to the rules.
